Local Spotlight: Davesté Vineyards

Davesté Vineyards

When in Statesville, you don’t have to travel very far to find something worth trying. That holds true when it comes to Davesté Vineyards, Iredell County’s first winery.

At the time of this blog’s publication, Davesté Vineyards is closed for tastings but is offering discounts on shipping and curbside orders. However, if you see vineyard tours and wine tastings in your future, you’ll take a trip down to this four-acre winery and vineyard!

About Davesté

The first of its kind in Iredell County, Davesté Vineyards traces its roots back to 2003. That’s when Dave and Ester DeFehr, Davesté’s owners, first sought out a space to make their dream a reality. In 2004, the DeFehrs purchased four acres along a rural 52-acre tract of land to be the site of their vineyard.

But the DeFehrs were far from done. The vineyard was planted in 2005, along with landscaping refinements. This year also marked the completion of a small winery on the Davesté Vineyards property. In 2006 came the first harvest, with a haul that produced 500 cases of wine. The very next year, that production doubled to 1,000 cases.

Today, Davesté Vineyards boasts a modern, three-story barn that shelters the small winery, a timber-framed tasting room, and a public art gallery. It also serves as a picturesque wedding venue and reception locale.
